Manipulate the Malleable
Manipulate the Malleable is one-sheet booklet edition explores the pressures of disinformation and the relentless excess of contemporary information overload materialized through typography, repetition and process. The work began as a risograph experiment, exploring noise, clarity and accumulation. Built through iterative composition on the analogue risograph interface, the layered textures emerged in response to inking, overprinting and shifting analogue content until the surface became an excess of letterforms, channeling asemic writing.
Metallic silver ink was pressed into the sheet on a historic Vandercook Universal III letterpress. The metallic message, set in a condensed-style lead type, is tightly spaced and compressed to resist immediate readability. This typographic treatment paired with the buzz implied by the background texture speaks to the difficulty of sorting truth from manipulation in media environments which are commonly saturated with decontextualized and emotionally charged content. The folded structure creates a cyclical reading loop, the message end leads into the beginning. Reading “resist the obfuscation of truth by questioning the persistent noise designed to manipulate the malleable ‽” the message echoes the continuous churn of information in our daily lives while offering a call to pause, interpret and scrutinize.
This work was a collaboration with Dan Elliott created at the HITE Institute of Art + Design in 2026.
